RUSSIA: SHAM MISSILES ON PARADE
Many of the huge
missiles displayed in Red Square parades in the Soviet
era were only dummies, but they scared the West into an
expensive response, a weekly reported. One such fake,
shown in a May 9, 1965, parade prompted the United States
to build an antimissile defense system worth billions of
dollars, said the magazine, Vlast.
