Advanced Kiswahili in Tanzania

      Fullbright Hays Group Project Abroad

      The University of Pennsylvania's African Studies Center will direct a seven week Advanced Intensive Kiswahili course in Tanzania (as part of Fulbright Hays Group Project Abroad) in the summer 2001. Penn has also directed Kiswahili GPA 1999 and GPA 2000.

      The main goal of the advanced Kiswahili course in Tanzania is to reinforce and enrich participants' knowledge of Kiswahili language and culture.

      Applications are accepted nationwide from juniors, seniors, and graduate students in United States universities who have previously studied at least four semesters of Kiswahili or the equivalent and are also interested in East African area studies.

      Students who are actively enrolled in their final semester or quarters of their second year of study of the language will also be considered.

      Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.

      University of Pennsylvania collaboratesthe University of Georgia in consultation with the Association of African Studies Program (AASP), the African Language Teachers Association (ALTA), and past directors of the Swahili GPA.
