Sheila Murnaghan is Professor and
Department Chair of Classical
Studies at Penn. Sheila (A.B., Harvard, 1973;
B.A., Cambridge, 1975; PhD, University of North Carolina,
1980) is the Alfred Reginald Allen Memorial Professor of
Greek. She is the author of Disguise and Recognition in
the Odyssey (Princeton 1987) and the co-editor of Women
and Slaves in Greco Roman Culture: Differential Equations
(Routledge 2000). She works in the areas of Greek epic,
tragedy, and historiography; gender in classical culture;
and the classical tradition. Her current projects concern
the tragic chorus, Herodotus, and twentieth century women
writers and the classics.
