Benjamin Truesdale entered the ANCH program in 2008, after receiving a B.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD (2002) and a M.Div in Early Christian Studies from the Union Theological Seminary in New York (2008). He wrote his master’s thesis on varieties of Byzantine social welfare institutions, for which he won the Hitchcock Prize in Church History at Union (2008). Ben is generally oriented towards the religious and social history of the Eastern Roman Empire; he has further research interests in ancient mathematics, medicine, astrology, natural science and pseudoscience.
