On A, Apollo and Marsyas. On left, a Muse holds a lyre and offers a closed role to a companion leaning against a rock. On the right a third Muse brings a chest. Perhaps the Muse without attribute will take the roll and sing from it to the accomppaniment of the lyre. This action would then parallel the main scene (if correctly restored), where also the moment before the playing is depicted. (From Immerwahr (1964), p.31).
