The average review is 1500-2500 words, though some books warrant more (or less); if you plan to write a longer review, please let us know.

Please send the review within three months. If you find that this will be a problem (e.g., the book is not what you expected), let us know and we will re-assign it. In any case, your review should appear electronically within two months; if it does not, ask us why.

Format-Please format reviews as you would a printable document

• italics for titles and for emphasis [no underlining]
• separate paragraphs with a line space [do not indent]
• do not use footnotes; endnotes are fine but they must be made "manually"-type [[#]] where the note marker would normally be;
• at the end of the text write NOTES: [line space] [[#]] etc. [line space between each note]
• do not use "smart quotes"
• do not use en or em dashes-use -- for em dashes and single hyphen for en dashes

For European accents use the following symbols following the relevant vowel:

Since Greek Beta code is all caps, put an asterisk preceding a letter that should to be capitalized.

We prefer Microsoft Word 6.0 or lower for the Macintosh. However, we can handle Word for Windows 6.0 or lower, Word Perfect for IBM and other older DOS file formats.

The standard heading is:
 

author (first name first), title (italics). City: press, date. Pp. (pages). Price. ISBN.
If you are reviewing a collection of essays, list contributors at the end of the heading.
After the heading, write "Reviewed by [your name]"
When in doubt, examine recent examples on this website.

To send a review by e-mail, it must be sent as an attached
document, to classrev@brynmawr.edu. In subject line write "Review of
author's last name (your last name)".

If you cannot send the review as an attached document, send a disk of the
review.
