Jennifer A. Amyx

Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science

Jennifer A. Amyx is Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. She joined the Penn faculty in 2002, having taught and carried out research previously as a Post-Doctoral Fellow (1998-99) and Research Fellow (2000-2001) at the Australian National University (Canberra). Professor Amyx received her PhD in political science in 1998 from Stanford University.

Professor Amyx's research focuses primarily on two areas: the politics of financial regulation and reform in Japan, particularly since the bursting of the nation's speculative "bubble"; and, the political dynamics of regional financial cooperation in East Asia since 1997. She has two forthcoming books: Japan's Financial Crisis: Institutional Rigidity and Reluctant Change (Princeton University Press) and (edited with Peter Drysdale), Japanese Governance: Beyond Japan, Inc. (RoutledgeCurzon Press). A number of her articles and book chapters also appear in Japanese. The recipient of the 2001 J.G. Crawford Award for her paper, "Moving Beyond Bilateralism? Japan and the Asian Monetary Fund," Professor Amyx has spent time as a Visiting Scholar at a number of research institutes including Japan's Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI) and the Institute for Fiscal and Monetary Policy (IFMP), Ministry of Finance, Japan.
