Faculty BiosHiroko Kimura SherrySenior Lecturer/Coordinator of the Japanese Language ProgramHiroko Kimura Sherry is a senior lecturer/coordinator of the Japanese Language Program in the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She received a B.A. in English from Aoyama Gakuin University. She was also trained in Education (International Christian University, Japan) and in Linguistics (University of Toronto, Canada) and has received master's degrees in both subjects. In 1975, she was chosen as a visiting lecturer in Japanese to University of Toronto by the Japan Foundation. She stayed in Toronto until 1980 when she came to Philadelphia. She has been teaching at University of Pennsylvania since 1981. Currently, she is interested in developing listening comprehension materials through computer technology. In July, 2002, she presented a conference paper entitled "Use of the SCOLA satellite broadcasting video/audio clips for upper level Japanese instruction" at the Computer-Assisted System for Teaching and Learning Japanese Third International Conference (CASTEL/J2002) held at USCD.
