The Richard Wright Lecture Series

Funded by the Center's William Penn Foundation grant, the Wright lectures are intended to invoke the spirit and energy of Richard Wright, whose life represented a quest to unify African diasporic and Euroamerican history and experiences. Conceived as scholarly inquiries into issues of contemporary concern, the Richard Wright lectures offered by Professors Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Homi Bhabha have drawn diverse audiences and provoked extensive debate.

Unique in their conception and funding, the Wright lectures are perhaps the only such forum for Black literature and culture in the United States. Further information about the lectures may be requested from the Center.
