Principled Opposition to the Impending War

Philadelphia Regional March, Feb. 15

Philadelphia Participates in Worldwide Protest Marches!

The worldwide protest on February 15 was the largest coordinated protest so far in history. The numbers of protesters equalled numbers seen at the height of protests during the Viet Nam war. Protests took place in over 300 towns and cities before the day was done. (See reports from CNN, the Inquirer, and the NY Times.)

Our March in Philadelphia (sponsored by PRAWN) filled the streets for four city blocks. The weather was cold, but the spirit was warm as a wide variety of people of all ages spoke out for peace. The usual mix of political activists protested, veterans, students, representatives of labor and religious groups, of course, but also middle-class moderates who have never marched or protested before, babies, young people, professors, and grandmothers. Here are some of the signs seen in the Philadelphia March:

  • Regime change starts at home.
  • Regime change, DC, 2004.
  • Saddam is not Iraq.
  • Retaliate with world peace.
  • Our founding fathers were protesters.
  • Bush policy: tax breaks for the rich, body bags for the poor.
  • Arrogance is not good foreign policy.
  • Pre-emptive impeachment
  • Our best defense? Think!
  • Healthcare not warfare.
  • Women say no war: invest in caring not killing.
  • Pearl Harbor was a pre-emptive strike.
  • Duct tape this!
  • I am unarmed and unafraid.
  • We're not your boardgame, Bush!
  • Bombing Iraq is SO ten years ago.
  • All we are saying is give Blix a chance.
  • Stop mad cowboy disease.
  • Smart weapons, dumb president.
  • They're selling war -- we're not buying.
  • If not for the French, we'd be British.
  • Think outside the bomb.
  • Ich bin ein Berliner.
