Below is the public statement that we submitted to the Daily Pennsylvanian for publication on Monday, November 18, 2002. It was signed by 166 faculty and staff members.

A CALL TO THE COMMUNITY TO STAND UP AND BE COUNTED
MEETING AND TEACH-IN

We the undersigned members of the faculty and staff at the University of Pennsylvania invite students, faculty, staff, and our neighbors in the Philadelphia community to join us in expressing profound opposition to the Bush administration's threatened war on Iraq.

The Bush administration has:

Before the administration launches such a war in our names, a war that will increase rather than decrease the threats to our national security, we invite members of the University and Philadelphia communities to a meeting to share their concerns regarding the impending war on Iraq and hear experts on the Middle East, military strategy, and geopolitics discuss the probable consequences of a war.
