Kant's First Critique

Prerequisites: Philosophy 004, one advanced courses in philosophy, or permission of instructor. All readings and lectures in English. Undergraduates need permission.
A detailed study of Kant's theoretical philosophy as presented in the Critique of pure Reason. Topics include our knowledge of space, time, causation, external objects, and self; the critique of traditional metaphysical arguments abou the soul, the cosmos, and God; Kant's special version of idealism; and Kant's theory of scientific inquiry. Written work will include several short papers and one term paper.
