Educated at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and at the University of Kansas, Naborn has specialized in (Dutch) historical linguistics, with articles and lectures comparing Plato’s theories and 16th century etymologies.  The history of the Dutch in America is another field of interest.

In computer applications and language, Naborn has been building experience and knowledge in the field of technical writing, with a professional background in editing (English and Dutch).  He regularly translates documents from Dutch into English, and vice versa.

As Director of the Dutch Studies Program, Naborn tries to stimulate Dutch academic and non-academic activities on and around campus. He is an active member of the Netherlands America Association of the Delaware Valley and of the Netherlands Society of Philadelphia, and he organizes lectures and readings on Dutch culture and literature.

In his spare time, Naborn is an avid reader, traveler and chess player. For a number of years he was co-editor of a chess magazine. A native of the Netherlands, he has spent time working in France and Spain as well.
