Phase One Quiz We have now covered the major Internet services such as telnet, ftp, archie, listserv and the like. This brings us to the end of phase one of this course. What would a course segment be without a test? I certainly don't want anyone thinking I've gone soft. The following is a "Internet Scavenger Hunt." Do as instructed and send the results to me. You may not use any resources other that Internet (Bitnet) resources. You may not confer with others in this course to produce the information. In each case send me the details as to how you found the requested information. To receive full credit for this quiz you must have the results dated no later that midnight Wednesday July 22. After that date only half credit will be awarded up until midnight Sunday July 26. Remember this is a W2 course (writing across the curriculum.) Writing style and content will count in the grading of the quiz. 1. Chet Atkins, the country and western singer, is a ham radio operator. His real name is Chester B. Atkins and he lives in Nashville, TN. What is his amateur radio call letters? 2. Capture and send to me the Atlantic City weather report. 3. Capture and send to me recent California earthquake statistical activity. 4. There is a very good guide called "There is gold in them thar networks." Send me the third paragraph from the document. Hint: It was originally a RFC (request for comment) and has a number assigned to it in the form of RFCnnnn where nnnn is a number. 5. Send to me at least five authors of published material having the last name of LeJeune. 6. A former colleague of my teaches at Lafayette College in Easton, PA. His name is Jim Schwar. Find his e-mail address without sending anyone e-mail asking for the address. 7. Produce a list of listserv lists that deal with IBM PCs and compatibles in some form. 8. There is very well known ftp site called GARBO. It has much in the way of programming language information. FTP and send to me an index, from GARBO, dealing with Pascal programs. 9.
