Under "Immigrants to Virginia," Vol. VI, Virginia County Records, page 284, May 15, 1635, is the following: "These underwritten names are to Virginia embarked in the Plaine Joan, Richard Buckam, Master, the parties having brought attestation of their conformity to the orders and discipline of the Church of England," Included on the list of passengers was Henry Perpoynt, aged 22. The record states that the "Bonaventure," which sailed from England in 1634, and the "Plaine Joan," which sailed in 1636, both landed their passengers in the Isle of Wight County, Virginia, In the book, "Early Virginia Immigrants," it is stated that in 1635, Elizabeth Larkin was brought into Wassaquinoake County by John Upton, and in 1637, she was transported by John Upton to the "Isle of Wight" County. There is good reason to believe that it was Elizabeth IArkin whom Henry Pierpoint married, as the Virginia records show that at that time she was the only single woman in that colony by the name of Elizabeth, and we do know that Henry Pierpoint's wife's name was Elizabeth. No records have been found in Virginia to show how long Henry Pierpoint stayed in Virginia, but we find much about him and his family in the records of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The “Friends" Church has records concerning him and his descendants. From the early settlers list of Anne Arundel County we have the following as having been transported into that county: Henry Pierpoint, Elizabeth, wife of Henry, and their children. Of the children Amis (Amos) is singled out as the oldest son and his father paid his way into the colony. The others were named in a group as follows: Jabis (Jabez), Elizabeth, Hannah, Moses. Henry Pierpoint entered rights in the Land Office at Annapolis, Maryland on October 30, 1665, for himself and Elizabeth, his wife,, and five children. A grant for 350 acres (50 acres a piece) was granted to him on November 1, 1665. In 1665 he received a certificate for 150 acres of land. This was called "Pierpoint's Lott." In 1675, he received a certificate for 80 acres of land, and the patent the same year and called it "Pierpoint's Rocks." In 1673 he received a certificate and patent for 40 acres of land, called "Pierpoint's Branch." In 1674 he added 207 acres to 'Pierpoint's Lott" and received patent for same. In all he owned over a thousand acres, [[32]] though it is not known that he followed the occupation of "Planter" exclusively. His home plantation, "Diamond," was located in Anne Arundel County about two miles from the head of Anne Arundel River (now the Severn River), and is now one of the most attractive sections of the state of Maryland, being the scene of fashionable summer colonies. These records are from the Land Office, Annapolis, Maxyland. That Henry Pierpoint was a man of means is shown by the fact that he paid his own passage into the colony, and that of his wife and five children. That he was a man of education is confirmed by the following minutes taken from the West River Monthly Meeting of the Friends Churchs "At a manis meeting at John Garey's at the "Cliffs," the 13th day of the 6th month, 1680, a book in manuscript by Henry Pierpoynt was read at this meeting." In another minutes it is spoken of as a book on Truth. All efforts to locate this manuscript, or a copy, have failed. That Henry Pierpoint was a man of public spirit is shown in the records of the Testamentary Proceedings, Land Office, Annapolis. He is named as one of the loving friends in the will of Elizabeth Brewer, 1668, and is asked to serve as executor, and is also one of the bondsmen. In 1674, he was security on fifteen thousand pounds of tobacco for John Vennals of Anne Arundel County. In 1685, he was testator of the last will and testament of William Mitchell (daughter- in-law's father); in 1676 for the will of William Crimes. It is reasonable to assume that Henry Pierpoint maxried the second time. In the will of John Summerland, a bequest is left to his daughter, Ann Pierpoint, wife of Henry Pierpoint. Henry was testator of this will in 1686, and may be the same year he married Ann Summerland. As there was no Henry Pierpoint, Junior, she must have been Henry's second wife. Henry seemed to have had quite a bit of trouble with his lands, especially the surveying of the boundary lines, and had considerable controversy in the courts, but each case was settled in his favor. As he grew older it seems he sold a good deal of his property. Two transactions recorded: In June 1683, he transferred to his son, Jabez, 207 acres called "Pierpoint's Lott" for the consideration of 2000 pounds of good, sound, merchantable tobacco. In 1696, he sold to his son, Amos, the plantation "Diamond" containing 200 acres of land, for the sum of three and five pounds sterling English money, Henry Piexpoint had nine children. The first five were born in Isle of Wight County, Virginia and brought to Maryland in 1665 - Amos, Jabez, Elizabeth, Hannah, and Moses. The last four children - Charles, Mary, Sarah, and Francis were born in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Jabez Pairpoint's will lists his five sisters - Sidney, Eliza Dea, Mary Davis, Sarah Warfield and Eliza. (Sidney and Eliza, wives of Charles and Francis respectively.) [[33 contains a reproduction of one of the records]] [[34]] The records of All Hallows Episcopal Church on South River, below Annapolis, Maryland, show that a number of Henry's children were baptized there. It is very probable that it was about this time that the family became members of the Friends faith. West River Meeting House records of the Friends have some of these children as being connected with them. There is no record as to where Henry Pierpoint, his wife, Elizabeth, or his second wife, Ann, died or where they were buried. ---[three generation chart]--- 1.
