E-mail sent to ListServ discussions will be distributed to everyone subscribed to the list. Newsgroups do not send e-mail to subscribers; their messages are posted.
Anyone can subscribe to a newsgroup and view its messages. You can close the subscription list of a ListServ discussion. (Further information about the differences between Usenet newsgroups and ListServ discussions is available in the Prep Center newsletter.
The University now makes ListServ discussions for every course. Each evening the list of people on each course discussion is recreated according to the students actually registered in the class. Faculty may activate a class listserv here
