How to Use the "vacation" Feature on ccat.sas

When you are going to be away for an extended period of time, it is a good idea to set up a "vacation message" that will tell people who send you e-mail that you will not be able to read their messages for a while. Whenever anyone sends you e-mail, your vacation message will be sent to them almost immediately.  You will still receive their e-mail.

If you are going abroad or you have another account that you will be using in your absence, you can combine this feature with the forward feature.

You can turn the vacation feature on and off very easily from the ccat.sas prompt.  Just log in to ccat.sas.  You now have a prompt waiting for you to type a command.

Turning the Vacation Message On

At the prompt, type in
    vacation on
You will be asked if you want to edit your vacation message.  Type in:
yes
You will then be taken to the pico editor where you can edit the text of the outgoing response.

Do not change the Precedence: bulk line, but you may alter the other lines. (If your subject line contains the word "vacation", many listservers will helpfully prevent that message from being distributed to a mailing list). When you are finished, press control-x (to finish). This message will now be sent automatically to anyone who sends you e-mail.

Turning the Vacation Message Off

When you return from your vacation, you will want to disable the automatic response. Log in to ccat.sas, and then at the prompt simply type in:
    vacation off
