“Septuagint Translation(s): Retrospect and Prospect”
Septuagint Institute
Trinity Western University
September 18-20, 2008
To celebrate the publication of the New English Translation of the
Septuagint (NETS), the Septuagint Institute of Trinity Western
University will host an international conference on September 18-20,
2008. The theme of the conference will be “Septuagint Translation(s):
Retrospect and Prospect,” and the focus will be on the Old Greek
version of the Jewish Scriptures, the modern translations of this
version, and the kind of scholarship that is involved in such
translation work. Representatives of at least three Septuagint
translation projects will participate: the New English Translation of
the Septuagint (NETS), La Bible d’Alexandrie, and Septuaginta Deutsch.
The conference will, therefore, provide an opportunity both to take
stock of the current state of Septuagint research and translation
work, and to anticipate how NETS and the other modern translations
might impact and shape the trajectories of future research.
Scholars and graduate students who are interested in presenting papers
at this event are invited to submit proposals that include their name,
the name of their institution, the title of the proposed paper, and an
abstract of up to 150 words that summarizes the problem or issue to be
addressed, the essential background to it, and the basic approach to
dealing with it. Graduate students must include a draft of the
complete paper. Speakers will be allotted 25 minutes each, with 5
minutes for questions and discussion.
Please send proposals by March 31, 2008 to the director of the
Septuagint Institute, Dr. Robert J. V. Hiebert
