Latin 228
Website Presentation

In addition to translation examinations, your work in this course will be assessed by your selection and presentation of a Latin text of your own choosing on a WWW-site. You should consult the instructor early in the term to begin thinking about your text and its presentation.

Some considerations:

1. A text of interest to yourself and others, within the grasp of your facility with Latin.

2. Thoughtful presentation of the text according to its nature, scope, and content. Does it require a translation? Does it require line-by-line annotation? Does it require some other form of hypertext linking?

Think of the reader. What will someone who has never seen or heard of this text, whose Latin is imperfect, do with the text you present? Imagine them clicking on the "Latin" link in the Labyrinth and find the text you've prepared. What then?

3. If you are not familiar with basic techniques of WWW-authoring, you will want to spend a little time early in the term acquiring and practicing those skills. The instructor can provide suggestions and guidance, but you will be largely responsible for bringing yourself up to speed.

Presentations will be assessed first for their interest and correctness, second for the ingenuity and usefulness of presentation; you are encouraged to make the site as attractive as possible with all the WWW bells and whistles you can employ, but you will not be penalized if your WWW skills are at the basic level.
