An iron gateway leads from Spruce Street to the University of Pennsylvania campus between Houston Hall and Williams Hall. Woven into this gateway are words attributed to Hannibal, the resourceful general from North Africa:
Inveniemus viam aut faciemus.
We will find a way -- or we will make one!
For about five years, while the Perelman Quad was being constructed, the gateway was removed. It looked like this:
I am pleased to report that, as of June 2001, the original iron gateway has been restored as a way into the Perelman Quad and the Penn campus.
