Ancient Judaism Regional Seminar

Sunday, March 6, 2016 - Monday, March 7, 2016

The University of Pennsylvania is hosting the 4th annual Ancient Judaism Regional Seminar

(AJRS), cosponsored by the Center for Ancient Studies, the Jewish Studies Program, and the Department of Religious Studies. The conference will take place March 6–7, 2016 at the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies. The AJRS brings together faculty and graduate students in Jewish Studies from universities in the Northeast Corridor with the aim of enhancing graduate training in Ancient Judaism by providing opportunities for doctoral students to share dissertation research and build academic networks. The two-day event features three panels of presentations on advanced dissertation research by ABD students and a “lightning-round” session by pre-ABD students presenting preliminary dissertation ideas. New this year is a professionalization session centered on teaching Jewish Studies in the academy.  We welcome graduate students in related fields to attend in order to help their colleagues develop and refine their dissertation work and forge networks for the development of scholarship on Ancient Judaism. If you are interested in attending, please contact the organizers, Alex Ramos ( and Jill Stinchcomb (
