JWST230 - TOPICS IN EUROPEAN HIST: Jewish History Since Gender

This course will examine the ways in which historians have tried to rewrite Jewish history since gender methodologies and feminist theories have become widespread. Surveying the new histories written over the past three decades examining chapters of Jewish history from the Bible until the Enlightenment we will study the new questions and methodologies gender analysis has brought to the field and the ways in which the histories of the Jews have been retold. Each unit in the course will focus on a set of primary sources as well as on relevant research and will be accompanied by a theoretical reading.
