JWST410 - TOPICS IN MEDIEVAL HIST

This seminar introduces students to the development of biblical interpretation through the centuries by examining ancient, medieval, and modern interpretations of biblical writings (typically the Song of Songs or the Sermon on the Mount). Students will encounter a variety of significant interpreters guided by appropriate secondary materials. The seminar will utilize a combination of lecture, discussion, student presentations, close reading, reports, and a research paper. Students will be encouraged to do original research in the primary sources. This course has no prerequisites. The readings will be made available in English.
