A Teaching Asia Workshop: Teaching Asia Legacies

9 AM to 4 PM, Friday, October 24, 2008

Teaching Asia Workshops, presented annually for the last 18 years by the Mid-Atlantic Region Association for Asian Studies, aim at increasing K-12 teacher's understanding of Asia.

This one-day workshop examines two topics of current relevance to the teaching of Asia and Asian languages—Teaching War and Trauma: The East Asian Experience and Teaching Asian Languages and Cultures to Learners from Heritage Backgrounds. A series of presentations in two panels will focus on the educational methods and approaches to teaching culture and language at the K-12 level. The focus of the workshop will be practical and hands-on, emphasizing actual needs and strategies that can be applied in teaching.

This workshop is open to K-12 educators from New Jersey, the greater New York region, and communities throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Participants are encouraged to also attend the MAR/AAS Annual Conference.
