Since `Language Status Studies' is not a
traditional or well-established description for the field of language
studies
we intend to denote, and by contrast certain other descriptions-most
notably
`Language Policy' and `Language Planning'--do exist and enjoy widespread
currency, we will use Language Policy Studies as a cover term for
language planning, sociology of language, sociolinguistics, or whatever.
