LaRRC / Prep Center (440 Williams Hall)
Hardware and Software to be made available in LaRRC and Prep Center from
Fall 2001.
LaRRC and Prep Center labs located in 440 Williams Hall will have twenty stations in total with 12 PCs and 8 Macs. Out of these, 7 PCs and 3 Macs are new. All the new PCs will have Windows 2000 operating system with most of the custom software installed including Office 2000 and Network software. There will be four scanners with OCR capability and two printers with Postscript capability. Two new PCs and Mac will be attached to a VCR and cable port, so digitizing from video tapes and cable programs will be possible. One PC will have Windows NT to connect all PCs and Printers in the lab and all the MACs will be connected to each other using AppleTalk. All of the new Macs will have OS-X, with most of the language kits pre-installed. We will still have Windows 98 and MAC 9.1. in some of the older computers that we retain. Some of the computers will have CD Recording and DVD capabilities as well.
LaRRC lab will have most of the authoring capabilities including digitizing audio, video, and making web pages. Prep Center will have the capabilities for Word Processing, Internet access, Scanning and Printing. Both these labs will have technical and programming help from the manager, an IT-support person and a work-study student help person.
Following is a list of computers, each named after the respective language departments. Appropriate special software and fonts will be installed in respective computers along with the other custom softwares. A layout of the two labs is included along with this document. Please let us know if you would like any other software and/or hardware that need to be purchased and installed in any of these computers.
