Read carefully

A. "I don't have Russian fonts installed"

1. go here and download Koi-8 (2 of them: courier and Bukinist). Note that there are three popular types of Russian fonts: Win125, MacCyrillic, and Koi-8. To see these exercises you need Koi-8. If you have a Mac, be sure to download the Mac version.

2. You must also INSTALL these fonts.
FOR Windows 95 and higher: go to start
settings
control pannel
there you will discover a fonts folder
Place the fonts you downloaded in the system fonts folder.
FOR MACINTOSH:
Open your hard drive and look for the System folder.
In it is a folder entitled "fonts".
Place the fonts you downloaded there.
3. While doing this, make sure Netscape is closed.
After installing the font, restart your computer.

4. Open Netscape. Go to GENERAL PREFERENCES, and from there to FONTS
"for the encoding" -- chose Cyrillic Koi-8
"fixed font" -- choose Courier Koi-8
"proportional font" -- choose the other Koi-8 that you downloaded.
5. Now open the exercise page in Netscape.
Go to OPTION, DOCUMENT ENCODING and select Cyrillic Koi-8

How do I type in Russian in Word or any other WordProcessing software using Koi-8 font?

If you need to prepare documents using Koi-8 font, you will need a keyboard program, as the encoding is bilingual. Have a look at this picture for keyboard mapping. Without a keyboard program, you will need to use Alt+ the corresponding ASCII number (0177 to 0255) to render Russian font - select ER Bukinist in Fonts, turn Num Lock on, press Alt and 0177 to 0255)

YOU SHOULD NOW BE ABLE TO SEE RUSSIAN TEXT!!!

B. "I know I have Russian fonts installed, but I still can't see the page!"

1. Are you sure you have Koi-8 installed and not just Win125?
2. Complete steps 4 & 5 of the above section.
If it has no effect -- repeat it several times, sometimes browsers are stubborn at reloading.
