The Exodus edition is based on the following Mss, which have all been recollated by the LXX-Unternehmen:
1. Uncial manuscripts
A London, Brit. Mus., Royal 1 D.V. V. Century. “codex Alexandrinus”. In H.-P. the ms is III.
B Rome, Bibl. Vat., Vat.gr. 1209. IV.Century. “codex Vaticanus”. 1,1-2,6 is very faded, and was later retraced. Variants from this section are designated as Bs, if the underwriting can no longer be seen. In H.-P. the ms is II.
F Milan, Bibl. Ambr., S.P. 51 (formerly A. 147 inf.). V. Century. Through loss of a leaf the following text is lacking: 1,1-10 της 8,19 Φαραω 1° - 12,31 και 6° 30,29 αγιασθησεται - 31,18 αυτω 36,3 προσ]εδεχοντο - 37,10 και 2°. Another leaf was damaged resulting in the absence of 32,6 θυ]σιαν - 13 πολυπλη[θυνω. The correctors in F come from two clearly distinct periods. The codex was first corrected by various hands which can be recognized by their yellow or brown tints and their majuscule writing; these are called Fa in the edition. In medieval times the codex was consistently retraced by a restorer throughout the ms. His and later correctors are called Fb, and when their corrections can be distinguished in time as Fb1 and Fb2. When Fb has made a clear mistake in retracing text it is called Fs. The missing passage in F, 30,29-31,18 was supplied by Fb. In connection with the omission of 36,3-37,10 noted above an unusual problem evolved. At 37,10ff the text of F with its usual correctors Fa and Fb occur. But at the same juncture a later corrector, also a minuscule hand, wanting to provide for the missing text inserted a text which in both order and textual character was much closer to MT than F. This text consisted of 36,3 (in MT) - MT 39,19, though due to page damage it lacks the text of 39,3 αυτου 1°-16 επεθηκ[αν. Because of this text’s nature some passages occur twice. This later text is designated as Fh. Its corrections are dubbed Fh2 (over against Fh1 = the original reading of Fh). Corrections by erasure which can not be identified are simply called Fs. Most marginal readings in the ms are from Fb, for which often erasure by dots locates the text effected. These are not noted in the edition. Edition: A.M.Ceriani, Monumenta et profana 3, Milan 1864. 6.Greek Patristic Citations.
For the problems which are involved in the proper use of Patristic Biblical citations see Genesis 29-30.
Over against former editions with regard to citations which also occur in the N.T., the influence of the latter on the patristic writers is assessed as much higher than in former works. In most of these instances generally speaking only the NT citations are given in the edition. Variants in the Fathers are only mentioned in cases where NT influence can with certainly be excluded.

The edition of Auberts (PG 68-77) is in its entirely so full of errors that the Biblical citations give no trustworthy picture of the text used by Cyr. Since Exod is widely cited in both Ad and Gl, the most important mss of both works have been collated, and citations for both rest exclusively on ms witnesses, except for the pagination which has been taken over from Migne. Not noted are grammatical and orthographic variants, nor obvious scribal errors due to homoioteleuton. It is clear therefore that e silentio conclusions are not valid; the citation of an individual Cyr ms essentially implies the existence of a further worthwhile reading.

Mss 91-96 are Vulgate mss which contain marginal readings which are attributed to LXX, Al and T. Only 95 genrally fails to indicate their derivation. The attributions LXX and GR (= Graecus), for which no distinction could be discovered, have not been noted in the apparatus, whereas readings of Al (aliter or alia) and T (tertius) are noted. The notes designated by Al (for aliter or alia) show a close relation to the readings of ms. 100. Since mss 92 and 93 are copies of ms 91, only the readings of mss 91 94 95 and 96 are used in the apparatus. The collations were taken from T.Ayuso Marazuela, La Vetus Latina Hispana. For the text character of the Old Latin cf A.V.Billen, The Old Latin Text of the Hexateuch, Cambridge 1927. As in Lev, Num, and Deut citations from mss and Patristic texts were not cited according to text types as in Gen. The character of the Old Latin texts of Exodus resembles that of Gen and Deut; it is not as homogenious as that of the books of Lev and Num.
But also for Exodus it has to be pointed out that certain texts which render hexaplaric readings (LaO in Gen) and PsPhil, and so not dependant on Old Latin, are cited within the group of Latin Fathers. The designation La is used when all Old Latin witnesses agree.

As in the case of Deut 32,1-41 so Exod 15,1-19 poses a peculiar problem, since this text also had an independent history outside of the Pentateuch tradition; it existed as well as an Ode at the end of the Psalter. Since this text was also used in the ecclesiastical liturgy, its developement was even further complicated.

A text history of the liturgical texts of the Canticum Moyses must take into consideration the following liturgical orders: the African order, the Veronese, the Milanese, the Roman, the Spanish (Mozarabic), and the Gallican (or German) orders. The witnesses which were collated for these orders may be listed in the following Canticle-orders:

For the rest only brief excerpts (liurgical incipits ?) of vss, 2 4 6 7 8 11 12 15 16 19 obtain. The text is published in W.E.Crum, Catalogue of the Coptic Mss in the British Museum, No. 493. London 1905.
London, Brit. Mus., Or 5299(2) (= Crum No.494) has remnants of 15,1-16. which text has been published in W.E.Crum, Coptic Mss. Brought from the Fayyum by W.M.Flinders Petrie, Esq., D.C.L. together with a Papyrus in the Bodleian LIbrary ed. with Commentaries and Indices (London 1893). The language of the text is a peculiar mixture of Bohairic, Fayyumic and Sahidic, but mainly Bohairic; it is certainly not Fayyumic (or Middle Egyptian), as A. Vaschalde, Le Muséon 46 (1933), 306 maintains. The text has been collated under the designation Aeg.

7. The Syro-hexaplaric Version = Syh
The folowing texts were collated:

SyhT = The Tur‘Abdin Ms. Edition: A. Vööbus, The Pentateuch in the Version of the Syro-Hexapla. A facsimile edition of a Midyat Ms. discovered 1964. Corp. Scr. Chr. Or. 369. Louvaine 1975. The following texts are absent due to leaf loss: 22,30 τη δε-23,26 επι 29,41 init-30,18 μαρτυριου. Since many parts of the edition are difficult to read, especially the names of the younger translators, a photograph of the Codex in the possession of the Unternehmen was used for control purposes.
Syh is also one of the chief witnesses for the hexaplaric recension in Exodus. By its literal word for word reflection of the parent text in
Syriac dress it is almost as valuable a witness as a Greek ms. Besides this it yields a multitude of hexaplaric signs, and is consequently indispensible for the reconsruction of the hexapla text.
Often Greek words appear on the margins of Syh mss. Most of these have no text critical value, since they merely reflect the text underlying the Syh
text itself, and so were not noted in the edition. Only in exceptional cases, either in the case of proper nouns or in a few hexaplaric readings where their value for text criticism was apparent was clear were they noted. The recurrent πιπι was not noted in this edition.
III. Printed Editions
The most important are the three oldest Bibles: Aldina (Ald), Complutensis (Compl) and the Sixtina (Sixt). These have been fully collated for this edition. The principles which guide their citation are given below. Of the three, the Sixtina was reprinted frequently; for this edition, however, only the original text was used.
1. Aldina (Ald)
For the evaluation of Ald see Leviticus 24-25. In the Apparatus Ald is noted only when it deviates from the closely related ms. 68.
2. Complutensis (Compl)
The text of Compl in Exod 1-34 is based to a great extent on ms 108;
Compl does, however, also contains variants which are witnessed by mss
of the f group. Such are always noted in those mss when they
deviate from ms 108. After 35,1 Compl supports a text which has been
revised towards MT. but not one that agrees with the hexaplaric
textform, but one showing great similarities to the form that Fb
represents (comp I 1 sub F). Compl was thoroughly examined for Exod
35-40.\9/
The plus 18,(23)-(28) is also
witnessed by Compl, though in a form which departs from that of all
other Greek witnesses. It has taken from o' only the
introductory και ποιησεις επι το λογιον. What follows is a translation
of
39,16αβ- 39,21α, but set in the 2.Pers.sg.fut. By this translation 39,18b-39,21a is in essence the form which Compl gives in Exod 39, whereas the plus in Exod 28 is translated afresh.
As to the singular readings of Compl as a whole it may be remarked that they are not based on a lost Greek parent text, but rather due to the editor of Compl; comp possibly some otherwise unwitnessed assimilations to MT.
3. Sixtina (Sixt)
Of the three old printed editions Sixt shows the closest dependence on a single ms. It mainly presents the text of cod.B; if B is corrected, it usually follows Bc. Since little is known about sources other than B used in the restoration of its text Sixt is noted in the Apparatus whenever its text deviates from B, B* or Bc. Mere orthographica which in certain cases are noted in the Apparatus, are not noted for Sixt.

5. Holmes-Parsons (H.-P.)

6. Lagarde
The text of Lagarde is one which he reconstructed for the Lucianic text of the books Genesis to Esther. The edition is not used for the Apparatus.
7. Brooke-McLean (Br.-M.)
See Genesis 54-55. The edition Exodus-Leviticus appeared in 1909. Also in this edition a list of its variants from Br.-M. is presented in a Supplement.
The list, however, does not reflect those readings which Br.-M. includes which were taken over from H.-P.
8. Rahlfs (Ra)
Ra is a semi-critical edition of the Greek Old Testament whose text in Exodus is in essence based on a comparison of Uncials A and B.
The text history has been thoroughly discussed in J.W.Wevers THGE. Only such information will be given here which is necessary for the use of this edition.

The C'’-group represents a widely dispersed text type, which
is found especially in the Catena mss. On the other hand, seven Catena
mss do not belong to C'’, namely the codices mixti 18, 646, ms
128 which belongs to the z-group, the oI ms 708, the oII
ms. 135, and the s ms 730. Ms 424 represents from 26,14 a C'’
text type as well, though its text is so strongly abbreviated that it
could hardly be reckoned part of C'’, and has rather been
assigned to the codices mixti.

For the character of the Second Apparatus see Genesis 59-60. As in
the other books of the Pentateuch, the hexaplaric materials derive
mainly from M, the s-mss, the Catenas as well as from Syh which
is especially important for Exodus. A particularly fine source in
Exodus as well is Fb, mainly for anonymous readings.
Fb is the most frequently cited Greek witness (488
instances). The particular position which the ms has in the second
apparatus is related to numerous examples of posthexaplaric Greek
activity, mainly of Jewish origin, as was also the case in Num though
to a lesser extant; comp. Num 35.
With respect to the origin of the hexaplaric notes the closest
points of contact are with the Catena tradition on the one hand, and
with the Syh on the other. Fb on the whole is limited to the
tradition of the α' readings. That this was a systematic tendency
becomes particularly apparent
from such cases where other witnesses showed more versions, but Fb
omits the σ' or the θ' readings, and gives only the α' ones.
Furthermore numerous cases obtain within the materials peculiar to Fb
which come from α' itself or from a post-α' tradition. Quite striking
points of contact appear with a Modern Greek Jewish version of the
Pentateuch in Hebrew letters which was published in Constantinople in
1547. It was republished in Greek letters by D.C.Hesselink in 1897.\10/
\10/A relation between this translation and Fb was already proven by D.S.Blondheim, Les Parlers Judéo-Romans and La Vetus Latina, Paris 1925, p.161.
The edition of Hesselink was given the designation of Pent in Apparatus II. The source critical value of Pent lies in the recognition that a large portion of the anonymous readings in Fb actually belong to a Jewish translation tradition, though not in the establishment of an immediate dependance which would be rather unlikely, but rather showing that Fb readings simply relate to a level linguistically older than Modern Greek. Beyond this it is evident that the fragmentary tradition of Fb can offer little more than a lexical comparison. Furthermore, the exact grammatical form often remains unclear, since the ms tends to omit such matters as parts of words such as suffixes and other elements. Sometimes such abbreviations can be solved by parallel traditions, either within Fb itself or through other mss. Presumably some solutions of these late Hellenistic forms may be found in the works of Du Cange and of Kriara, for which see Literature and Collections below.
A citation of Pent does not imply the establishment of a exact literal agreement between Pent and Fb, which on linguistic grounds would be most unlikely, but merely an indication that both sources were using the same lexical base. With the realization of this limitation, the notations of Pent are to be understood as follows:
= Pent means that the witnessed manner of translation reading in Fb is also to be found at the same place in Pent. This appears in 100 cases.
cf Pent means that the witnessed manner of translation reading in Fb is also to be found somewhere in Pent (15 examples).
Once again Cod M with 267 cases is a dependable source for hexaplaric material. The ms also contains a large number of Scholia and Commentary fragments, probably from the hands of notewriters in majuscule letters. These fragments are mostly found in Exodus catenas. Such fragments are designated, on the analogy of the notation of Catenas, as Mcomm; cf 28,36.
Unlike the case of Lev no instances of a relation between these fragments and the Samaritan Targum occur; cf Lev 30 and 31; rather the source of these in Exodus is throughout hexaplaric in origin. The closely related ms 416 which is extant only from 32,17 contains but 24 cases.
The Catena mss were also fully excerpted for Exodus. With regard to the catena ms 135 of the oII-group (70 cases), 730 of the s-group (64), the codd mixti ms 18 (98) and ms 646 (88), it is again evident that the hexaplaric notes throughout came from the Catena-tradition. This is also valid for ms 628 of the z-group (6 cases) which yields catena only in ch.15. But as in Lev notes from ms 424 were not cited. As in the other editions wherever the source of a comm reading could be verified in an edition, the relevant Church Father is named. The total number of Catena readings is 244.
Almost half, 128 in fact, of the noted Catena cases should not be reckoned as being part of the real Catena tradition; these are rather part of the separate materials which some cI mss, especially 57', often accompanied by 550', have taken over from the fragment-tradition of the s-Group. These are throughtout marginal readings. This is particularly clarified by the frequent doubly attested cases, in which 57'-550' present specific readings both in the Catena form and also in the form of s readings. cf 4,10 13,13, etc. Of the remaining 116 general Catena cases, 35 are attested only on margins, either as independent exegetical-philological fragment, or within a commentary. Also the usual Catena cases are actually taken from an excerpt tradition common to both M and s. Other materials unique to C'’ cannot be ordered within the hexaplaric tradition with certainty; in any event readings which are simply glosses are not recorded in the edition.
As in the other volumes of the Pentateuch the mss of the O'’ -group yield relatively few readings of the later versions. Similarly again in Exod Syh in contrast to the O'’ mss testifies to numerous cases (679 in fact). In any event only 346 cases, thus more than half, are not marginal readings, but are simply asterisked materials witin the text, though anonymous. These readings are duely recorded in the first apparatus because the asterisk shows that such readings belong to the LXX tradition. For others the recording is placed in the second Apparatus, in any event without asterisk though with names of source, since such readings are to be defined as part of the non-LXX tradition. The symbol ↑ at the end of the witness(es) indicates the fact of double notation.
Syh witnesses to an unusually large number of these plusses with the otherwise infrequently occurring source ὁ ἑβρ'. But particularly in these cases the two Syh-mss are often divided in their attributions, i.e. the one may attribute a reading to ‘αyin (= ὁ ἑβρ') and the other ms to gamma (= οἱ γ'). Since the two attributions were originally in Estrangelo script in which the two letters are very similar, in the edition ὁ ἑβρ' readings are only accepted if the‘αyin is written in Serta script. This distinction is also valid for the London ms which was the basis for SyhL, so that it is possible for contradictory notes to appear in our edition.
From the Greek O'’ witnesses the most instances come from ms 64 with 74 cases. A few further readings obtain in this ms, of which only the remains of letters remain due to the fact that the pages were trimmed on the edges, and thus letters have been lost. Noticeably the amount of hexaplaric material is unevenly distributed, since only 36 fragments obtain in the first three chapters, another 24 in 7,19-19,22, In the last 30 chapters only 14 cases appear, and none between 4,1 and 7,18. The large number of these hexaplaric materials in the opening chapters shows that a tradition of hexaplaric materials was originally an equally rich source for the fragmentary remains of the three later translators as Syh; on the other hand, the ms also illustrates the process of erasure of the excerpt tradition.
Ms 707 follows with 72 cases, 58-376 considerably less with 28 and 13 resp., and finally 708 with only 1 case.
As in the other books of the Pentateuch the mss of the s-group preserve numerous fragments of the later translators; of these ms 344 has the most cases, 349, followed by 85 with 298 and 321 with 258.
Since ms 130 is only an s witness from 16,29 it has only 176 cases; similarly there are only 50 cases in ms 127, and 22, in 346. Independent of the quantitative differences in the witnesses, all share in the same excerpt-tradition. Quite different is the case of ms 343, in which not only are all cases anonymously given but the 46 cases often show special materials whose character is not always definable, and seems to show some relation to the Fb tradition, and in one case the notation = Pent might even be made.
The remaining LXX-tradition contains only a small number of hexaplaric fragments, thus ms F has only 8 cases, while for Fa only one instance is attested. Of special interest, however, are the 53 cases in the b ms 108, which is clearly related to the Syh tradition to such an extant that in one case only ms 108 has preserved the Greek text. It also appears that the excerpt tradition had certain contacts with Fb, The 35 cases in the f ms 56 follow the tradition of Fb, and in 8 cases = Pent, and in one case cf Pent. From the d-group ms 106 is represented only once; from n 75 has 15 cases, 458 only 4. From z the catena-like ms 128 has 4, and 630 has only one case.
Among the Church Fathers hexaplaric notes are only sporadically attested. The most (27) are found in Procop, followed by 11 in Tht, 8 in Hi, 4 in Eus, and 1 each in Max and Or.
Except for the peculiarities of Fb and Syh Exod follows the pattern with respect to the tradition of the hexaplaric notes common to the Pentateuch: M as well as the s-group with the exception of 343 extract clearly from the excerpt tradition; wherein these differentiate is in that M first of all presents lexical peculiarities, whereas the s-group, especially 344, often documents different syntactic distinctions among ο' α' σ' and θ'. The M and s common tradition is in general also tied to the Catena tradition. A second large line of fragment-tradition is by contrast represented by Syh. All the other witnesses somehow fit into the categories described above.
For this edition Field has also been fully compared; similarly
Montfaucon was consulted, but in view of the numerous demonstrable
errors in it, its remaining instances unless further ms evidence
obtained were not noted in the edition.
The general arrangement of the Genesis edition was retained also for Exod. The changes which were proposed over against former volumes of the Göttinger Septuaginta are partially repeated below.
1. The Introduction
The introduction contains only such information as are necessary for the users of this edition. An extensive discussion, particularly of the text history is to be found in THGE. Deviations from Br.-M. are listed once again in an appendix, since though these have their importance are not strictly necessary for the reader.
As in Genesis the Orthographica and Grammatica discussion is placed in a Supplement. It is, however, dealing with fewer orthographic or grammatical matters, and rather concentrates on those that might then aid in understanding some passage. In general the observations in Supplement I in Genesis are also valid for Exodus. In the preparation of the edition the editor found it necessary to distinguish carefully between actual variants and such which are merely orthographic in nature; only the former were noted in Apparatus I. Accordingly such itacistic variants as of the transcription ι‘'ν were not noted. Only with proper nouns do all variants appear in the Apparatus.
2. The Critical Text
As in the Genesis edition proper nouns are given in full, i.e. with accents and when necessary with spiritus asper or spiritus lenis. The principles which the editor followed for the Genesis edition for the establishment of the critical text have not changed. The reader is therefore referred to Genesis 62-62.
In order to make the notation of the hexaplaric form of the text clear for the reader, the longer hexaplaric plusses are printed within the critical text itself. Through certain external changes it becomes clear that this text is not the critical text, but deals with variants to that text: a) by indentation and the use of smaller type fonts one realizes that the text is clearly different, and b) all the verse numbers are placed in square brackets (= the numbers of MT), since this text is not found in Exod. The insertion MT 28,23-28 is similarly presented after Exod 28,2
3. The List of Sources
Between the text and Apparatus I all the manuscript and versional sources used are listed in the same order as that used in the apparatuses. N.b. also the following: Any witness which is fragmentary is placed in parentheses, e.g. (835). Should the text of a witness begin on a particular page the text is named with a hyphen following, e.g. (120-); if such a text ends on a page, the hyphen precedes the name, e.g. (-120).
Should a particular text lack the text of a page, e.g. because of a lost leaf, this is noted for ms 120 by z-120. What this means is that all the mss belonging to the z-group have the page’s text except for ms 120 (which belongs to z).
The abbreviation al (for alia manuscripta) means mss which have not
been assigned to any text group, i.e. the so-called codices mixti as
well as mss too fragmentary to admit of a group assignment. The
expression verss refers to all the versions which are extant in full.
Versions which are only partially extant, such as Pal, are named at the
end of the list.
4. Apparatus I
The support for a variant is always given in a particular order: a) the uncial texts in alphabetic order, b) the papyri in numerical order, c) the witnesses of the O'’ mss, d) the witnesses of the C'’ mss, e) other text-groups in alphabetic order, f) the codices mixti, g) the rest of the Greek witnesses in the following order: N.T. witnesses,\11/ Phil, followed by other Greek Fathers in alphabetic order, h) the Latin texts in numerical order, followed by the Latin Fathers in alphabetic order. The Latin witnesses (except for the separate readings of the Fathers) are always introduced by the raised Lat, i) the other versions in alphabetic order, and j) other witnesses or Commentaries.

Over against the Genesis edition only the
citation of the Latin
Fathers has changed. No longer used are the designation of the various
text types as LaK, LaM, etc., while the
designaton La can only be used in Exod if all the Latin witnesses are
in agreement (cf Section A II
1. supra). This change is necessary since no critical text edition of
the Vetus
Latina for Exod has appeared, and therefore no certain basis for the
differentiation of the Old Latin text according to such text types is
given (cf
Section A II 1, supra). Because of this it was also necessary to place
the
Latin Fathers immediately after the Latin mss. For the change in the
notation
which the Pentateuch editions have in common over against the other
Göttingen
Septuaginta editions see Genesis 64.
In the various volumes of the Pentateuch the formal
agreement of variants with MT is carefully noted. Whenever a variant is
acknowledged as = MT, it means that MT includes MT, Sam, TarO
and
TarP. When this is not the case, the individual agreements
are
given. For Exodus the editor was also given access to copies of various
Qumran mss,\12/ which have been collated
under the following sigla: Ql = 4Q paleoExodl, Qm
= 4Q paleoExodm, Q364 = 4Q 364, Q365
= 4Q 365. The mss in paleohebrew script are particularly interesting
since they correspond almost completely to Sam.

5. The O-Text in chh. 36-39
The text 36,8-39,23 of Exod diverges very strongly both in extent and order from MT. Only the hexaplaric text has a text which has a text revised according to MT; this text is represented by the witnesses Fb G-58-72-376-767 AethC Arab Arm Syh = Compl. The extensive differences between the O text and LXX has made it advisable to print the hexaplaric text separately, as for example Br-M. in their edition did.\13/ Here, however, this pattern was not followed, since it was felt that only an integration of the O text in the Apparatus could clarify the place and importance of the hexaplaric text in the text history. The differences both in extent and ordering between MT and the O-text revision based on it on the one hand and the LXX on the other becomes clear in the contrasting tables of the two forms, MT and Exod.

In general the notation of the hexaplaric text in the Apparatus will not be problematic to the reader. This is also true for the longer pieces of O-text which appear within the critical text in smaller type and are introduced by the numeration in square brackets, so that the application of the variants to the correct insertions will be immediately apparent.
A notation problem in connection with the proper placing of the hexaplaric text in the Apparatus appeared only in the case of the omission of larger text blocks by individual witnesses, since the notation of a textual omission normally presupposes a comparable text order. It is precisely in this that the witnesses of the O-text differ over against Exod, since the LXX text abbreviates over against MT and is essentially differently ordered. This difficulty especially pertains to the four mss, Fb G-58-72, each of which have various omissions.
As a solution did not appear for the conversion of an omission in O in the corresponding Exod text forthwith, the notation for the actual information could only be given in indirect fashion, namely that an actual piece of text had fallen out. It would indeed be unpardonable to present variants in the Apparatus in such a fashion that the character of the variant would not be evident. After all, omissions should be so noted on the basic presupposition that a block of text is absent. This can only be clearly stated by designating the end of the omission according to the MT order which is the order followed by the hexaplaric text. Thus, e.g. in 38,9 the omission in ms 72 is given as follows: om καθαρου-ΜΤ 38,18 κατακάλυμμα. Since Exod 38,9 = MT 37,10 the notice is to be understood that the ms omits MT 37,10-MT 38,28, thus a large block of hexaplaric text.
On the basis of the above tables what ms 72 omits over against Exod are the following verses: 38,10-11 [37,10-15] 38,12-17 [37,17b-28] 38,25 22-24 26 37,7-16. In positive terms it means that ms 72 has the following verses of chh.36-39: 36,1-40 [36,8b-34] 37,3-6 16-38,9 39,2-23
To place this kind of detailed information in the Apparatus would make this overly complicated, without giving the reader a better insight into the basic circumstance involved. In view of this it seemed wise to give an exact account of the content of the four mss involved, as well as to put cf praef at the end of the notation of such omissions. Also helpful to the reader is the fact that the source list correctly indicates the content of the four mss.
Fb has the following text: MT 36,3-MT 39,19 (39,9 αυτου 1° -16 επεθηκ[αν is absentdue to leaf loss). The equivalent text in the order of Exod would be: 36,3-16 24-27 [36,8-34] 37,3-38,11 [37,10b-15] 38,12-13 [37,17b-28] 38,22-26 39,1-10a 13.
In G only the following is extant: MT 36,35-MT 37,21 MT 38,24-MT 39,21 MT 39,37-fin libri. The equivalent text in Exod would be: 36,8b-29 37,3-6 38,1-11 [37,10b-15] 38,12-17 [37,17b-21] 39,1-10 13 16-17 19-fin libri.
For ms 58 MT 39,40-MT 40,17 is absent due to leaf loss. The equivalent in Exod would be: Exod 39,19 20a 22-40,17.
6. Apparatus II
The basic principles underlying the second Apparatus were discussed under B II. above. Unless it is otherwise indicated, the second Apparatus always deals with marginal readings. Readings from the later translators which derive from the Commentary texts within the Catena mss are designated with a superscript comm (e.g. 77comm). If the Commentary is specifically mentioned this is shown by adding the superscript name (e.g. 77comm Tht). Readings within the catena which are not in the Commentary are recognized by a superscript cat (e.g. 77cat).
