Claudia Consolati
I came to the University of Pennsylvania in 2006 as an undergraduate exchange student from the University of Bologna. I fell in love with the University and with the city of Philadelphia. I have lived and studied in several places – Trento and Bologna in Italy; Dublin in Europe – but never have I found myself as welcomed as here. I decided to stay and start a PhD program in Italian Language and Literature.
At Penn, and in particular in the Italian Department, I discovered an extremely fertile environment in which to further pursue my studies. I am mostly interested in the relationship between Italian and American Literature, in particular in the 20th century, and in the literary theory of reception and translation. The knowledge that I would be supported during my academic career by stimulating and extremely well-informed professors and fellow-students is one of the main reasons why I chose this program. In addition, I found the Department’s up-to-date approach in literary matters to be particularly appealing; it also convinced me that the University
of Pennsylvania is where I wanted to pursue my graduate education.
