La Casa Italiana
The Casa Italiana offers an on-campus residential living experience in an Italian-speaking environment. Its neighbors in the Gregory College House Modern Languages Program are the Casa Hispanica, Maison Française, Deutsches Haus, and Russkij Dom. The Program Director is an accomplished graduate student, usually a native speaker, chosen to promote the goals of fluency in the language and cultural exposure. The Italiani share a dining table in the 1920 Commons, a film series, and other specially planned events, such as excusions to the Italian Market, the opera, and cooking instruction. This close-knit community is open to members from all four class years, with veterans taking a guiding role. Many participants are interested in international business, law, or careers in diplomacy, and often plan to study abroad during their undergraduate years. Both beginners and those with considerable language fluency are welcome; dedicated residents often show great improvement in their fluency skills. Residents may gain a course credit in Italian (one-half credit per semester that can be counted toward major credit) by arrangement with the Program Director and the Undergraduate Chair.

Weekly Conversation Hours and frequent screenings of Italian films at the Casa Italiana are open to the entire Italophone community.

Harrison College House
Harrison College House sponsors evenings of Italian Cinema, dinner and informal talks with Italian faculty, and conversation with campus visitors from Italy in various fields such as medicine and business.

The Center for Italian Studies
The Center's projects, intended to foster interdisciplinary perspectives, range from encouraging teaching on Italian topics and the funding of research abroad in Italian Studies, to sponsoring special events such as guest lectures, readings by Italian and Italian-American writers, musical performances, and international conferences. Through the endowed Salvatori Research Fund, the Center is able to subvene publication of its conference proceedings as well as assist in financing faculty and graduate students for research trips to Italy. The Amici Prize, funded by the Friends of the Center for Italian Studies, supports undergraduate research in Italy. The Vittorini Prizes, awarded under the Center's auspices by the America-Italy Society of Philadelphia, honor outstanding achievement by undergraduates in Italian at Penn.
