- By presenting a score of 4 or 5 on the Advanced
Placement Spanish Language or Spanish Literature Exams.
- By presenting a score of a 7, 6, or 5 on the International

- By presenting a score of 650 or above on the SAT II in Spanish or a comparable score on the department's written multiple choice exam. Please note that only students who have a scored a 547 or above on our online placement exam are eligible to take the department exam. Students with an SAT II score between 600-640 are eligible to take an oral test during the first week of the semester; if they pass the oral test, they are exempt from the language requirement.
- By successfully completing Spanish 140,

If you begin the language sequence at Penn with Spanish 110, 120 or 130, you must complete the sequence by passing Spanish 140 at Penn in order to fulfill the language requirement.
Once the language sequence is begun at Penn, it cannot be fulfilled by taking course work at another institution without the written permission of the Director of the Spanish Language Program.
If you have completed the language requirement through
one of the ways described above, please contact the Undergraduate
