Your first course paper of four to six typewritten pages (reasonable line width, reasonable type size--don't make us ask for a word count!) will be due in draft form on September 27th. Please remember that the more polished your first draft, the even mo re polished your final, graded draft will be after the WATU consultation. Don't forfeit your chance to do better than your best.

Advance your own answer, supported by reasoned analysis and presentation of facts from the ancient (Primary) sources, modern (secondary) sources, to ONE of the following three questions. Remember the study guide, remember the bibliographies offered in Bury & Meiggs!

What do you believe and can support as the answer was the primary motivating factor for Greek Colonization after the Bronze Age?

Why did Herodotus and Thucydides write their histories? They both say why. Do you believe their answers? Why?

Offer your own explanation (or explain why you agree with someone else's, which is much the same thing) for the influence the Greeks have had on Western thought since their day.
