Course Description
This course introduces students to the study of religion through consideration of some important religious traditions of the Western world. The ancient religious expressions of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Canaan will set the context for the living and intertwined belief systems of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The course will provide a basic familiarity with these traditions, and will place special emphasis on exploring the origin, history, major developments, and variety within each of these monotheistic traditions.
This course has no prerequisites. Successful completion fulfills a distribution requirement in the College of Arts and Science: General Requirement II, History and Tradition.
