Best Paper Prize

The jury (which consisted of three faculty members and a graduate student) was greatly impressed by the general high quality of papers presented at the conference, which made the process of selection very difficult.

The main criteria for selection of the winner were: articulation of subject matter and argument, originality of research, rhetoric and clarity of presentation, and mastery of the subject during the question and answer section. Based on these criteria, the jury has awarded the prize to two presenters: Rayna Lopyan for her paper “Russia’s Eighteenth-Century Conflict: Modernization, Unification, or Both?” and Markian Dobczansky for his paper “War and Identity: Stalin, Khmelnytsky and Russo-Ukrainian Relations.”

The award will be publicly conferred at the Slavic Department end-of-the-year party in April, and it will be reflected in the official awards of the College of Arts and Sciences. We offer our congratulations to all participants for their fine work, and to the award winners for their special achievement.
