Biography

Maria Shardakova received her doctoral degrees from Moscow State University in History of Russian Literary Language and from Bryn Mawr College in Second Language Acquisition. Her current research interests lie in the intersection of three fields interlanguage and cross-cultural pragmatics, second and foreign language pedagogy, and identity in second language.

Maria Shardakova taught Russian language, linguistics, culture, and literature at the University of Pennsylvania, Bryn Mawr College, Middlebury Summer School, the University of Maryland, and Moscow State University. She is an avid admirer of classical music and jazz. She is also practices yoga and enjoys painting.
