First: one (fledgling)little fat
grey thing opening its mouth to me in distress that I saw
on my way to the library must have
fallen onto the sidewalk so I called Sheila and said look up on the internet what
to do with birds that fall out of their nests
and she typed in what to do with fallen
birds and the first thing the site
said was: DO NOTHING.
The parents are probably
nearby and watching so I moved a bit away and there was the mother literally with a worm
in her mouth so I went on to the library and checked out my books but checked
out the scene with the bird again on the way back and there was that little fat bird now
at the base of the tree but visibly
out of breath. A bird panting. Can’t be good. Exposure
to passing cats besides.

Another problem: bird that built a nest in the flower pot next to my front
door. Hey little brown bird (are you a wren?) - that is not a safe
place to build
your nest! It is spilling over the back of the flower
pot and is too low to the ground
to be safe. One thinks also of
cats in this context.
I have stopped using that door in deference to her poor choice.
