Buglettes or Features?

I have been using XYWRITE 4.015 for a couple of years now,
currently on a Gateway 66V with DOS 6.2. I am now for the
first time printing out camera copy for a book on a HP
Deskjet 500 using a Garamond (C2109C) font cartridge, which
is supported by the XY driver, and does not otherwise yield
problems.

On this project I have run into some "features," not
previously tried, that I am hoping someone has already found
workarounds for, since they aren't acceptable in the
finished book. The last thing I want is to be forced into
W** P** to get this job done.

1. When using odd/even running heads, RHO and RHE deltas
don't work. The contents of the RHO delta, with or without
a RHE counterpart, appear on every page. An RHE delta alone
doesn't do anything at all, no matter where it is placed.

2. Footnote placement is poor, with a good number of notes
beginning the page after they are keyed in, although there
is plenty of room on the proper page. In one case, the
remainder of a footnote appears 2 pages after the beginning,
although there is nothing on the page in between to
interdict footnotes.

3. The superscript footnote key appears in 12pt, slightly
raised, which looks terrible with 12pt text. The same thing
happens with the Times Roman cartridge. On the other hand,
using the unattractive CG Times built into the printer
("Dutch" on the XYWRITE font menu), which requires image
mode, the superscript is too small (6pt) to reproduce well,
and the left single quote, which normally looks like a real
single quote mark, looks like a monospace one, unusable for
camera copy.

Any suggestions?
