I find that for a good deal of marking text, dragging the mouse (actually
trackball) is faster than moving the cursor, since the former can actually
move the cursor diagonally, and directly from menu (in the rare times I
use it) to text. It is certainly the fastest way to move the cursor
across swaths of text. I use a large trackball, which means my hand finds
it without groping when I want it. On the other hand, I agree with you
that the keyboard with F-keys on the left (put in place by the
Demiurogos, as Plato's Timaeus shows beyond a doubt) is faster for
practically everything else, especially when customized to fix run-on
sentences etc. with a single keystroke.
