You have now located the entry portal to my web-based introduction to Classical Sanskrit religious literature. This is not an archive of original texts or translations, but rather provides an overview of the nature and extent of the literature. It also provides bibliographic references that will help you locate texts or translations to suit your interests.

If you are new to the study of Sanskrit literature, and don't know where to go in this site, click here.  If you would like to learn more about the Sanskrit language, click here.

If you have an idea what you are looking for, click here to get a list of the genres of Sanskrit literature. From there, you can access: lists of the individual texts subsumed under each class; brief summaries of the genres or of the individual texts, drawn from classic handbooks that are now in public domain; and bibliographic listings of editions, translations, and reviews of editions and translations.  Click here to view a listing of the handbooks that are used by this site.

Please be aware that this site is still under construction, so there will be a lot of gaps throughout. In fact, at this point you'll find more gaps than text.  Forward comments on this site or bibliographic information that I might have missed to:  carlas@ccat.sas.upenn.edu.
