John Jennings
Although John once dated a girl by the name of Fallon....... I am not that Fallon.
I met John back stage at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, PA, moments before he and Mary Chapin Carpenter hit the stage. Meeting John was a huge thrill, as I have been a big fan since I first saw him perform at the Newport Folk Festival in 1990.
John Jennings' music career began at an early age. He made his rock 'n' roll
debut in the sixth grade when he played "Secret Agent Man" and "The
Sounds of Silence" at a talent show. He had already taken piano lessons
and piddled around with the trumpet, but when he heard the Beatles, he
was inspired. After his talent show experience he focused his attention
on the bass and guitar.
Years later, a friend introduced him to a young, unsigned
singer/songwriter who would later change the course of Jennings' career. This unknown singer/songwriter was none other
than country music sensation Mary Chapin Carpenter. Jennings ended up
playing guitar, producing and writing with Carpenter for many years. In
addition to working with Carpenter during this period in his career,
Jennings also worked with other artists like Lyle Lovett, Indigo Girls
and Beausoleil.
John Jennings has produced, played backup guitar and written for other
artists, but he had never taken the spotlight for himself, at least not until
recently. Buddy, Jennings' debut album, will be the jumping off point
for his solo career.
