The John Templeton Foundation was established in 1987 by international
investment manager, John M. Templeton. One of the Foundation's major undertakings
is to explore and encourage a link between science and religion. The Foundation
advances this mission through a series of award programs, studies, and publications.
The 83-year old Templeton retired from his investment management career
in 1992 to make the work of the Foundation his full-time priority. Establishing
that the world currently spends over $2 billion per day on research in science
and medicine, Templeton's dream is to see the world devote at least one
tenth of that amount to research on spiritual subject matter.
The Foundation has created and currently funds over 40 projects, studies,
publications, and award programs around the world that support the mission
of linking science and religion. The Foundation's programs fall into three
general focus areas:
- Science and Religion
- Spirituality and Health
- Education
