Note the following:
1. The 'scientists' are all male, wear glasses, and are middle-aged.

2. They wear white coats.

3. They miss some very obvious facts, which explains why we haven't been able to understand how dolphins communicate: They speak Spanish!

4. The 'scientists' are weird and maybe not very smart? (Also have bad haircuts.)

What's wrong with this picture?

• Researchers work at home, either in their attics, or in their basements (e.g. Cats and Dogs ) performing the kind of research that would probably be funded by a large pharmaceutical corporation in 'real life' and be carried on at a huge research lab somewhere in New Jersey.

• They work alone, drooling over their test-tubes, cackling to themselves ("Soon I'll control the whole universe! heh, heh, heh!") instead of collaborating with other researchers (as in real science.)

• They have 'evil' intentions--to trump this, or foil that, or gain control of the universe, etc. (see cackling, above.)

• The source of funding of their operations is unclear, not stated, improbable. (Scientific research requires elaborate funding, complicated labs, years of unproductive research, before results develop. How would independent individuals have the wherewithal to do this, without funding from Merck, Pfizer, or the NSF?)

• They discover materials, compounds, or chemical elements not found anywhere in the known universe--what one real scientist called Unobtainium, such as the kinds of metal used for the space ship in 'Flight of the Navigator.'

• When they work on 'language,' they find animals that can communicate using human language (usually English!), just like we do. Or, the animals use mental telepathy, ('Space Cat') or some kind of wireless technology ('Congo'.)

• When they do find that animals have language, it's usually English! (Except for our dumb friends, see above, who don't know a word of any other language, so don't understand that the dolphins really speak ...Spanish!)
