Colossian Hymn

Colossian Hymn

words and music by Jay C. Treat, based on Colossians 1:15-20

The Image of the unseen God, firstborn in timeless birth,
Our Christ created everything in heaven and on earth.
Each galaxy is his by right, each atom is his own,
Each law of nature, force, and power, each hierarchy and throne.
Because of him and for his sake, created things exist.
Apart from Christ who is the Head, the Body cannot last.

He is the Source, the Precedent, the Firstborn from the dead,
In order that he might remain in every way the Head.
In him God's plenitude resides and works to reconcile
The world that alienating powers dare cheapen and defile.
Until God's reconciling work is done and power is just,
We recognize no Lord but Christ, in God alone we trust.
