Bernardino Baldi (1553-1617)

In response to Leon Battista Alberti's comments on Vitruvius's writing style and use of technical terminology, Bernardino Baldi wrote the first philological commentary on Vitruvius, entitled de verborum vitruvianorum significatione. Appended to this work is another brief treatise by Baldi, scamilli impares vitruviani, which represents Baldi's interpretation of the use of that term by Vitruvius.
