Nile Twilight

Dennis Saleh

Dusk is a poor Egyptian
Only one lie then gone

The light is indifferent
but the colors mortify

red and amber and
then turn away

brown jewel dusk
sediment accrual

At the feet of a broken
god pieces strew

with inscriptions
and declarations

"I have eaten the sun
I have lain with the moon

"Have mounted the dawn
and all time as Ra

"A true god makes
these words

"I shall be immensity I shall wake stone

"My name is Neteru
I am this god"
