Policy on Suspension and Reinstatement of an IOSCS Member / Executive Committee Member
Approved by the IOSCS Executive Committee on November 18, 2020
Any member of the IOSCS or of its executive committee who is convicted
of a criminal offence for activities that would bring the organization
into disrepute shall have their membership on the committee and/or in
the organization revoked by the executive committee. The possibility of
reinstatement after the completion of a sentence, or after a period of
time otherwise deemed to be appropriate, shall be given consideration
and voted on by the members of the executive committee.
In the event that the executive committee determines that a member
should be suspended, the president shall provide not less than fifteen
(15) days notice of suspension to the member and shall give reasons for
the proposed action. The member will have the opportunity to make an
oral or written submission to the executive committee in response to the
notice, received not less than five (5) days before the effective date
of the suspension. In the event that no submission is received, the
president may proceed to notify the member that the member is suspended
from membership. If an oral or written submission is received within the
above-mentioned time frame, the committee will consider such a
submission in arriving at a final decision and shall notify the member
of that decision within a further fifteen (15) days from the date of
receipt of the submission. Any proceeding challenging the suspension
must be commenced within one (1) year after the effective date of the
suspension.
