We envision this program appealing to sociolinguists, educationists, specialists in communications, journalists, legal scholars, policy-planners, and other academics concerned with language issues. The Ebonics flap in the press has shown the inadequate preparation of journalists to deal with language-policy issues, and the general lack of knowledge among teachers regarding solutions to problems of early literacy for non-standard speaking minority children.
