Inchoative and Punctual notions.

We have already introduced the notion that Ø´Ô koo can serve as a marker of the beginning of a new state or action. This emphasizes the POINT of beginning, rather than the duration of the state. With stative verbs that require the dative (e.g. ×»ÀÕ teri `know', äÀÕ puri `understand', the addition of Ø´Ô koo emphasizes the point (hence PUNCTUAL) of beginning to understand or know. Hitherto dative-stative verb stems with Ø´Ô koo affixed become nominative-subject action verbs. Examples of contrast between verbs without Ø´Ô koo are labelled A below, and examples with koo are labelled B below:
