ATTACK!
A non-violent means of disrupting a website’s activities is to place images or text that directly contradicts the ostensible message of the group which has different politics than a hacktivist has. Chinese websites have been altered, as in the following example:
China
human rights
Hack date: October 1998
The U.S. hackers group Legion of the
Underground (LoU) broke into China's human rights Web site altering the page
with a political message. (Image courtesy 2600.com)
The Legions of the Underground consider their efforts to be comparable to mechanics check-ups. Their website explains how they explore operating system flaws and web pages and take measures to combat those flaws. They don’t wantonly destroy. They are elites among elites, international hackers carrying out international projects over IRC (Internet Relay Chat). LoU doesn’t take on new members regularly, and a quick perusal of their website reveals why. These hackers are working on projects dubbed Digital Ebola and IP Sorcery. They say, “We are perfecters in an imperfect world.” As such, they are responsible for a very famous hack, carried out by Bronc Buster. Let’s just say they’re a little eccentric.
