LeeAnn

lost at sea
i'll never forget that moment. that ice stiff second.
when i looked up from my frantic bailing
in the bow of the life raft
to empty the water from my pockets.
and in the severed spotlight of the moon,
saw the wave poised above me
and realized you were gone.
that maybe you were never there.
that in an alternate dimension
i was an old lady living in a shack with 60 cats
and you, my imaginary friend, was my last thought
before the wave crashed and dragged me under.
and only the splinters of our lifeboat raced on.
